Finally, Journal X.
I saved this review for last, partly because the magazine doesn’t have a black background; mainly, though, because I liked it more than any of the other zines I reviewed this issue.
Journal X is not easily definable. They don’t publish poetry (or, haven’t in any issue I’ve read), and their articles tend to stay more on this side of pop than on literature. These guys are mainstream media with a twist – and irreverent as a lounge lizard in a convent packed with nuns.
Nothing is beyond the swipe of their pen, and is seems that the bigger you are in the eyes of the world, the more they want to take a jab at you. For example, their current cover shows a picture of Boris Yeltsin with the caption: “I get drunk on Journal X.” I won’t go into their subject of their articles. It wouldn’t be appropriate within these pages. And, it might spoil the surprise.
If you do nothing else today, check out Journal X.
You’ll be glad you did.
