thoughts don’t turn off tonight /

which is nothing new. /

I feel /

for the infant / grief/,

fingertips brushing / the ache of its / latch-

/ sleep still stumbling /

between the fruit / I have feared to pick /

and the fruit / I have swallowed /

too deep.

Estelle Vav is a queer Asian-American poet. Their writing empathetically gives voice to unheard, personal experiences of trauma, diaspora, and queerness, as well as encourages reflection of new perspectives.
