They have repainted the walls
of my new apartment, painted
over the cellophane bodies
of insects still clinging
to the opaque white primer

I can see them twitching
through the eggshell gloss
their wings beating fierce
to crack through the prison
of knickknacks and bookshelves and new furniture
I direct the moving men to crush them
flat, into the wood
