review
afterDinner
Edited by Alexis Massie
"When I first discovered this 'zine last year, I felt as though I'd
dug up a buried treasure. afterDinner is a striking example of
minimalist design combined with quality content ... it seemed a perfect
example of the editor's comment that poetic journalism itself must balance
'clarity with omission,' ideally with something 'haunting in the background,
unspoken'..."
Born Magazine
Edited by Ashley Song
"If hypermedia can enhance the sometimes mediocre stories at 'Born
Magazine', how much more can it enhance excellent literature?"
Duct Tape
Press
Edited by Josh Wardrip and Christina Berry
"I would not necessarily bookmark it, but for a 'zine that was established
because the founders had 'nothing better to do,' Duct Tape Press
shows remarkable consistency and dedication, which makes it worth a
visit..."
The Poetry
Webring Webzine
Edited by Paul Greenhow (Chesil)
"It's far too early to say whether the editors will make good on their
promise of regular quarterly updates or if PWW will truly evolve
into a showcase for 'a wide diversity of work from first time net-published
poets to well-established net and print poets' ... the 'Launch Issue'
does contain a few nice surprises..."
Poor Mag
Edited by Catherine Nance
"Would-be readers who've taken the trouble to download the Shockwave
plug-in in order to see the 'zine in all its glory will be particularly
irritated at what they find inside. And that's a shame because Poor's
design team is certainly top-flight ... [but] without the eye candy,
Poor Mag is no mag at all..."
Salt Hill
Journal
Edited by James Wagner
"I really like Salt Hill, and if I could be sure that there
was someone still behind the scenes I'd bookmark it. But I think it's
a case of, 'the lights are on but nobody's home.' Hello? Is anyone there?"
Transcendental
Friend
Edited by Garrett Kalleberg
"In the words of editor Garret Kalleberg, Transcendental Friend
is 'a place of cultivation of literary thought rather than a curation
of contemporary literary works.' For now, TF is a zine – and
it's quite a good one – but, if things go according to plan, that may
change..."
