Editor’s Notes for April 2001

April's biggest news is that Pif, LLC, which owns PifMagazine.com, Pilot-Search.com, and Zine-X.com, has become a non-profit corporation. We're really excited about this change because it's allowing us to form new partnerships with folks across the Web, furthering Pif's mission statement, which is:

At the turn of the century, people commonly complain that mankind is advancing more quickly scientifically than it is spiritually. With this concern in mind, Pif is written for readers with both an interest in the arts and technology. It is Pif's mission to promote and encourage all intersections of literature, fine arts, and cutting edge technology, which illuminate mankind's common search for understanding and direction. Pif's various components work together to establish Pif as a vortex for these intersections:

  • PifMagazine.com publishes fiction, poetry, profiles, reviews, interviews, columns, original cyber art, digital photography, digital film, hypertexts, and commentary informing readers about technological developments in the artistic and literary worlds, maximizing hyperlinks, audio, video, and other useful literary and artistic technologies.
  • Pilot-Search.com expedites literary and artistic searches on the Web by providing both a search engine and a directory of relevant links.
  • Zine-X.com unifies literary and artistic zines while multiplying users' exposure to the literary and artistic Web through a free banner exchange.

Pif is committed to promoting writers, artists, and artistic technologists who pursue excellence in their craft on the Web and in other electronic mediums and who encourage others in their attempts to do the same.

Given our new status as a non-profit, we hope that you, our readers and supporters, will contact us if you have any ideas for collaborations between Pif and other members of the arts and technology community. Or send your general feedback to our reader Talk Back section.

Also, in the future, Pif’s store (an upcoming new feature), book sales, ads, and donations will pay for our content and staff. For more information on how you can help, email donations@pifmagazine.com

Another important news item is Pif's Annual Contest! The deadline is quickly approaching — April 30, 2001. We're accepting submissions in fiction, poetry, and cyber art categories and giving away $1000 in prizes. For more information, read Pif's Contest Page.
